How World-Class Golf Facilities Elevate Performance

By RJ Schebel  September 6, 2024

A large part to the success of RPS golf students is the facilities they are privileged to utilize. From their membership to a private Jack Niclaus club, their first-class on-site short game area, to their wedge distance control driving range, RPS golf students have all the tools necessary to fine tune their skills and enhance their development.

Santa Lucia River Club:

To many, a golf course is just another golf course and it may not seem important which golf course they are training on. RPS golf athletes are given a full junior membership to the Santa Lucia River Club located one mile outside campus.

Santa Lucia River Club offers many advantages to our athletes. The Santa Lucia River Club gives us full access to tee times. As a private club the afternoons are always wide open and our students are guaranteed tee times. Many public courses have a lot of outside play and busy afternoons. This can cause problems for a training atmosphere when the students are not allowed to play on certain days, can only play a few holes, or get mixed in with general public golfers. We are privileged to play at least 9 holes every Tuesday through Friday and 18 holes every Saturday morning.

Santa Lucia River Club is also a very challenging golf course. From the demanding tee shots, small undulating greens, and back tees at 7000 yards Santa Lucia River Club truly prepares our student-athletes for collegiate golf.  Why is this important? The ability for our students to test their golf games on a challenging golf course ensures they must have great course management skills, an elite short game, and precise iron play. Playing our club every day truly tests the athletes’ skills and makes sure they are tournament ready. After playing and learning at our club, our students are better prepared for their monthly tournaments.

Onsite Short Game Facility:

RPS has just opened our new short game facility. This short game facility is located 600 feet from student housing. Our on-site short game area includes two putting greens and two chipping areas, and a wedge range. All greens were built with champion Bermuda grass which is one of the best putting surfaces in the industry. We surround the greens with top of line celebration Bermuda grass, and four large green side bunkers with premium sand. There is not a shot in golf around the greens that our student’ can’t practice on a daily basis.

These are not just regular short game areas. Our coaching staff was able to assist in the design of every onsite green to make sure all training aspects were covered.  We are also installing a lighting system to allow the students to work on their short games into the night. This will be a distinct advantage for our students.

Our first putting green is 6000 square feet, and is labeled as more of our technical green. This green has many flatter areas for the students to work on their technique, start lines, and setups. Our second putting green is 7000 square feet and contains multiple slopes and run offs. This green has a lot of undulation and it really helps the students develop great distance control with challenging slopes with lots of break. Our chipping areas not only have the best grasses in golf, they have multiple slopes for the students to work on all types of lies around the green.

Wedge Range:

Any experienced golfer will tell you that the most important area of the game is 150 yards and in. When it comes to lowering your scores 150 yards and in the where we must be elite. Our onsite wedge range consists of multiple targets ranging from 40- 200 yds. This area allows the students to not only work on their full swing technique, but most importantly they are able to work on their distance control and pitching. This area allows our students to dial in those awkward wedge distances and important short iron approaches. Tiger Woods once said having the ability to hit the ball pin high with multiple shapes was the key ingredient to his ability to score and become one of the game’s best iron players.

RPS facilities are world class, and our practice areas separate us from other academies. We are able to offer everything and more to all our golf students. We want to invite everyone to come see and experience it firsthand. Our students now have every tool needed to take their games to the next level and become a CHAMPION!
